Brown Candles
Maybe the room is already wood, wicker and lamplight, and a white candle in it looks wrong. Brown runs through every one of these candles, and on plenty of them it sits beside a second colour — gold, ivory, orange. The full product name says which, and that is the bit worth reading first.
The scents mostly follow the colour. Choco-coffee, Choco-coffee-vanilla, Choco-coffee-cinnamon, Chocolate-vanilla, Chocolate-Cinnamon, Coffee-vanilla and Sandalwood are the warm end of it — chocolate, roasted coffee, cinnamon and vanilla doing the work. Others pull elsewhere: Vanilla on its own, Orange, Green apple, Sakura, Euphoria, Dream, Citronella. Pick the one someone would actually want to light on an ordinary Tuesday, then argue about the shape.
Shapes vary: slim pillars, pinecones, reliefs, bells, zodiac circles, a spiral tree, a tall cone, Advent sets. The wax is a paraffin wax blend, and Natural crystalline wax on some of them. Two candles of the same height can carry quite different burn ratings, so the hours are worth reading one by one instead of judging by how tall something stands. Wick short before it is lit, every time. Let the first burn go on until the melt has opened right to the edge; otherwise the flame settles into a narrow shaft and stays there. Level base that cannot catch, air that is not moving, and someone in the room while it is alight — and all of them well out of children’s and animals’ reach.
