Wild strawberry Scented Candles
In February a room can smell of nothing at all, and a berry scent is one way of dealing with that. The other reason people stop here is a present for somebody who already owns plenty. Wild strawberry is in all of them, and behind the strawberry there are raspberries and a hint of forest moss. Some have a second scent in them as well — Vanilla, Lavender, Sandalwood, Dream, Citronella or Orange. So nobody is choosing a smell blind here; the harder part is the shape and the size.
The shapes do not belong to one family. Hearts and spheres sit low and are read from above, so they belong on a table rather than a high shelf. Pinecones, bells, pyramids and a tall cone work the other way round, height before footprint. Relief candles carry their pattern on the side, so they are worth putting where people see them side-on.
The wax does not vary: a paraffin wax blend in all of them. We make them by hand in Královské Poříčí. Each one carries its own burn rating in hours, and those differ sharply between the small shapes and the big ones — that is the figure to read before anything else.
Hours, heights and the spot each shape is suited to
Measure the spot first, then read the ratings. The round hearts are the flat end of this: Candle pink HEART circle, Candle HEARTS circle red-pink and Round Wedding Candle with Stones 4 all measure 14 cm across at 0.18 Kg, rated 6-13 hours — the shortest rating of anything here. Sphere Candle Relief Waves Red-Yellow is tighter on the surface at 7.5 cm across, 0,195 Kg, 15-30 hours.
Height goes a long way in the other direction. Tall Cone Candle Red-Blue is 43 cm tall, 7.5 cm across, 0.7 Kg, rated 127-170 hours, and nothing else here runs anywhere near that long. Lifting them will mislead you, though: Candle large red HEART 3 wicks weighs 0.9 Kg, more than anything else here, measures 19.5x14.5 cm, and is rated 12-45 hours.
Same hours from a different build happens more than once. Pyramid Candle Tetrahedron 5 stands 21 cm at 0,23 Kg, and Candle Bells – red with golden accent is 13.5 cm tall, 5.5 cm across, 0.27 Kg; both are rated 25-30 hours. For a narrow gap between books, Relief Candle MARIE Purple-White – Handmade in Kralovske Porici is 16 cm tall and only 4 cm across at 0.27 Kg, rated 28-39 hours. If hours matter more than the shape, Large Sphere Candle Blue-Speckled-Pink and Sphere Candle Large 1 are both 12 cm across at 0.74 Kg, and Bakus Abundance Candle Red with Golden Effect 0.8kg – Wild Strawberry is 22 cm tall and 8 cm across at 0.8 Kg; all of those are rated 72-96 hours.
Shorten the wick before every lighting. The first burn sets up the rest: keep the flame going until the melted wax has reached the rim, not just a ring around the middle. A lit one needs level ground that cannot burn under it, air that is not moving, and an adult in the room, with children and pets kept at a distance.
