Lavender Scented Candles
The house has gone quiet for the evening and you want one small light somewhere, or you are buying for somebody who asks for lavender and nothing else will do. Lavender is in all of them. Some have Vanilla, Wild strawberry or Sandalwood alongside it. So the question here is not really the scent. It is the shape, and how long it will keep going.
Height is where they part company. A heart or the sphere stays close to whatever it stands on and is looked down into, so it asks for a clear tabletop rather than a shelf above head height. The pillars, the pyramids, the bells, the cone and the trees put their mass upright instead and can be seen from the far side of a room. The snowman and the relief candle land somewhere between the two, and the relief is worth turning so its pattern faces out.
Paraffin wax blend is what each of them is made of. Every one comes from our own hands in Královské Poříčí. We give the hours as a span, never as one number, and those spans sit a long way apart here, so that is the line to read before you fall for a shape.
Sizes, hours, and what the first lighting needs
Measure the spot before anything else, because the flat shapes are settled by width and not by height. Heart Candle Medium Purple covers 10x9 cm and burns 5-12 hours; Candle HEARTS circle pink-purple reaches 14 cm across for 6-13 hours; both weigh 0.18 Kg, the same weight spread differently. Romantic Heart Candle Purple with Five Wicks is the odd one out: 5 cm of height against a 19.5x14.5 cm footprint, 0.9 Kg on the scales, heavier than anything else here, and 12-45 hours. Put it where people are sitting, low enough that nobody is looking past it.
Height on its own will mislead you. Low Cone Candle and Prism Candle Sunray both stand 14 cm on a 6.5 cm base; the cone is 0.13 Kg and 19-31 hours, the prism 0.46 Kg and 45-75 hours. Same footprint, different hours. It repeats at 12 cm: Pillar Candle Lavender 12 cm is 3.5 cm across, 0.13 Kg, 18-24 hours; Candle Tree MISTLETOE – icy purple glitter is 7 cm across, 0.169 Kg, 18-36 hours; Medium Pillar Candle Lavender gives 27-36 hours at 0.2 Kg. Where the hours decide it, Large Sphere Candle Purple-White is the one: 12 cm across, 0.74 Kg, 72-96 hours, the longest here. For a narrow ledge, Relief Candle MARIE Purple-White stands 16 cm, taller than anything else here, on 4 cm of width, 0.27 Kg, 28-39 hours. And Pillar Candle 7cm, at 0.07 Kg, lighter than anything else here, is 7 cm tall, 3.5 cm across, 9-12 hours.
Cut the wick back before each lighting. Give the first one its time: let the melt travel out to the rim before you blow it out, otherwise the flame sinks a well of its own and the wax at the edge stays put. Then the ordinary things — level ground that cannot catch, no draught from an open window, and a lit one never left on its own, nor within reach of children or animals.
