Cucumber freshness Scented Candles
Most people who get this far have the scent half-settled already. Cucumber freshness runs through all of them, and a few carry Vanilla or Green apple next to it, so the name on the candle is worth reading before you assume it smells of one thing only. What is left to decide is the object itself: how big, where it will stand, how many evenings you want out of it.
Where it goes decides more than the shape does. A table people sit around wants something that does not block the view across it; a mantelpiece, a hall console or a shelf at eye level can take height instead, since nobody is looking over the top of it. Several have their pattern worked into the outside, and those deserve a quarter turn once they are set down, so the shaped face points into the room rather than at the wall. Pillars, pinecones, bells, a cube, a pyramid, a sphere, an angel, a mandala — these are not variations on one shape.
The wax is the same throughout, a paraffin wax blend, and each one is made by hand in Královské Poříčí. We have been making candles since 2004. Past that, the choice splits two ways: several small ones standing together on one surface, or a single bigger piece holding the spot by itself. Both work. They just last differently.
Picking by footprint and hours, and what the first lighting asks for
Start with the space you have cleared. Mandala Candle Sharlote measures 14 cm across, wider than anything else here, weighs 0.18 Kg and is rated 6-13 hours; it comes with a stand of its own, so allow for the whole footprint. Sphere Candle Relief Waves Green takes a tighter 7.5 cm of surface at 0,195 Kg for 15-30 hours — nearly the same weight, a longer rating.
Height alone will not tell you the hours. At 12 cm you already have a choice: Candle Large Pinecone, 3.5 cm across the bottom, 0.15 Kg, rated 18-35 hours, or Medium Pillar Candle 12 cm, 0.2 Kg, rated 27-36 hours. The same thing happens at 8 cm, where the ANGEL candle weighs 0.05 Kg and is rated 6-12 hours, while Relief Candle Pyramid Pearls Icy Green spreads to 9 cm across at 0.178 Kg for 8-13 hours.
Weight is no better a guide. Relief Candle MARIE Dark Green and Candle Bells both come in at 0.27 Kg: MARIE stands 16 cm tall on 4 cm of width, rated 28-39 hours, the bells 13.5 cm tall and 5.5 cm across, rated 25-30 hours. If the hours are the deciding part, LOVE Candle White Green is 40 cm tall, 6 cm across, 1 Kg, rated 45-96 hours, the longest span here. Give that one a spot of its own. For long hours without the height, Prism Candle Sunray 5 is rated 45-75 hours at 14 cm tall, 6.5 cm across and 0.46 Kg.
Trim the wick back before every lighting. That very first burn is the one to watch: the wax wants to melt all the way across to the edge before the flame goes out, or it digs a narrow channel down the middle instead. The rest is plain enough: a flat base that cannot catch fire, no draught across it, and nobody walking out of the room while it burns, with children and animals kept clear.
