Large Candles

Some places swallow a small flame. A wide sideboard, a hearth ledge, the floor beside an armchair, a table laid down the length of a room — a tea light put there reads as nothing at all. These candles are the answer to that: the speckled hearts, purple and red, stand 20 cm, and the cones and relief columns behind them climb a good deal higher, so the flame is seen from across the room and not just from the chair next to it.

We make them ourselves in Královské Poříčí, and there is a live camera running in the workshop if you would rather watch the work than take our word for it. The wax is the same paraffin blend throughout — hearts, pyramids, right triangles, cones, relief columns, and the sets that arrive as several candles of unequal height.

Scent is chosen separately from shape and size. Vanilla, Choco-coffee, Sakura, Green apple, Citronella, Orange, Vanilla-orange, Wild strawberry, Christmas punch with its cinnamon, clove, orange and red wine, Black lily, Cucumber freshness, Sandalwood, Dream, Euphoria, Vanilla-Euphoria, Vanilla-wild strawberry and a Fruit fragrance blend all turn up on these tall pieces. How long one lasts is a separate question again, and it does not follow the height: two candles of the same height here need not burn for anything like the same time.

Same height, a different evening

Height is the first thing you notice and the worst thing to choose by. Conical Candle Green Grapes Photo reaches 22 cm on a width of 2 cm, weighs 0.06 Kg and is rated 5-12 hours — a slim taper for a single dinner. Relief Candle Bakus Abundance Blue 0.8kg – Handmade in Kralovske Porici comes to that same 22 cm over 8 cm of width, weighs 0.8 Kg and holds 72-96 hours.

Weight does not decide it either. Relief Cone Candle Phoenix ON – Handmade from Královské Poříčí weighs 1.6 Kg, Relief Cone Candle Phoenix SHE – Choco-Coffee & Dream, Kralovske Porici weighs 1.9 Kg, and both of them stand 38 cm on 6 cm with 45-60 hours to give.

Better to begin with the spot it will stand on and how long the evening runs.

Two habits, whatever you settle on. Shorten the wick before each lighting. On the first evening leave it going until the melted surface reaches the rim right around — cut that short and it will burn downwards in a narrow well from then on. A level base that cannot catch fire underneath, no draught across the top, and never a lit candle in a room you have walked out of, or within reach of a child or an animal.
