Red Candles

Most people come to red with the evening already decided — a laid table, a room that needs one point to look at, a hallway that goes dark early. Red runs through every candle here, and over half of them carry white as well; Sphere Candle Relief Waves White-Burgundy is one of those. Elsewhere red meets a partner of another sort: Sphere Candle Relief Waves Pink-Red, Round Logo Candle Tartarus Cast Blue-Red.

Shape is where they part company. Hearts, spheres with a wave relief, pyramids called Rocket and Tetrahedron, pinecones, boats carrying a single letter, relief pillars, round candles with a logo cast into them, chakra pillars stepping up from MINI to MAXI. Scent is a separate decision: Wild strawberry, Vanilla-wild strawberry, Christmas punch, Gin & tonic with its juniper and citrus, Sakura, Rose, Jasmine, Mint, Bergamot, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Lavender, Orange, Vanilla-orange, Cucumber freshness, Citronella, Euphoria, Dream and Vanilla.

We make them ourselves in Královské Poříčí; this is our own work, not stock bought in from someone else. The spread of sizes is wide — Small Pinecone Candle – Red, Vanilla-Strawberry, Handmade stands 9 cm and would vanish beside the tall pieces. Two candles can match on the tape measure and still burn a different evening, so the measurements say more than the photograph does.

Choosing by the spot it stands in, and the first burn

Start from the surface, then from the evening you want out of it. Vanilla Pillar Candle - Handmade with Cotton Wick and Set of 7 Chakra MINI Candles 1st–7th Chakra Pillars come out identical on paper — 7 cm tall, 3.5 cm across, 0.07 Kg — yet the vanilla pillar is rated 9-12 hours and the chakra pillars 8-15. Both are made of the same paraffin wax blend; so are the spheres, pyramids, hearts and cones.

Two habits are worth keeping. Trim the wick before the match gets near it. Then give the first lighting time — the pool of melted wax should spread right out to the outer edge before you put it out, or the flame starts sinking a narrow shaft and stays in it. Set it on something flat that will not catch fire. Keep moving air off it. And never leave it alight in an empty room, or anywhere a child or an animal can get a hand or a paw on it.
