Vanilla-orange Scented Candles
Most people have the scent settled before they start looking, and then get stuck on everything else. Vanilla-orange is in every one of these: vanilla and orange together, and that pairing runs through the lot. On some of them Green apple is written in beside it, not instead of it, so read the full name of the candle before you decide.
What is left is the object itself, and that takes longer to settle. Snowmen, pyramids, a mistletoe tree, relief work, a moon and a plain pillar are all in here, and the shape decides more than you might expect. The same paraffin wax blend goes into all of them, and we make them ourselves, by hand, on our premises in Královské Poříčí. So what you are really weighing up is where the thing goes.
How long one runs does not follow from how big it is; a broad one here can carry a lower rating than a slim one, so take the hours from the exact candle you like rather than from its size. Relief Candle Bakus Abundance Orange weighs 0.8 Kg, and anything that heavy wants a solid surface under it.
Matching the size to the spot it will stand in
Begin with the surface, not the shape. Small Pillar Candle Vanilla-Orange is the slim one: 7 cm tall, 3.5 cm across, 0.07 Kg, rated 9-12 hours. Candle Snowman Beanie reaches the same 7 cm but needs 5 cm of width, weighs 0.09 Kg and is rated 8-14 hours. Either will sit on a sill or a shelf that is already busy.
Height on its own tells you little. Snowman Top Hat Candle and Relief Candle Pyramid Pearls both stand 8 cm, and that is where the likeness ends: the top hat weighs 0.072 Kg for 8-15 hours, while Pyramid Pearls takes up 9 cm of width at 0.178 Kg and is rated 8-13 hours. Candle Moon Butterfly wants 14 cm of clear surface, weighs 0.18 Kg and is rated 6-13 hours, the shortest run of anything here, so count on the lower end of it.
Further up, Pyramid Candle Pentagon 1 comes to 11 cm and 0.15 Kg for 17-30 hours, and Candle Tree MISTLETOE stands 12 cm over 7 cm of base at 0.169 Kg, rated 18-36 hours. Pyramid Candle Rocket 9 and Pyramid Candle Rocket 4 both go up to 19 cm on 9 cm of width, 0.26 Kg each, rated 19-29 hours. Something that tall gets in the way of a conversation across a laid table, so a sideboard is the better home for them. Relief Candle Bakus Abundance Orange is the tall one, 22 cm on 8 cm, rated 72-96 hours, and nothing else here comes close on the hours. Stand it somewhere clear, with nothing overhanging and nobody reaching past it.
Cut the wick back before every lighting. The first time, give it long enough for the melted wax to spread edge to edge, or it will burrow a narrow shaft afterwards. After that: level and non-flammable underneath, no draught across the flame, and nobody leaves it burning in an empty room with a child or a dog about.
