White Candles
Say the room already has plenty going on — patterned wallpaper, a crowded shelf, a table laid for guests. That is where white earns its place, and white is on every candle here, on many of them running alongside a second colour: turquoise on Relief Candle MARIE Turquoise with White Edge, red on Candle Spiral Tree white-red with glitter effect, green on LOVE Candle White Green, black on Round Logo Candle USK Akademik Black-White.
The shapes underneath run from cubes with a pearled surface and small trees to angels, snowmen, pyramids, chakra pillars, wide mandalas, relief columns and round candles carrying a logo. We make them by hand in Královské Poříčí and have been making candles since 2004. Most are made from the paraffin wax blend; the BOAT candles that carry a single letter — Z, W, V — are made of natural crystalline wax.
Scent is a decision of its own, separate from the shape. Vanilla, Sakura, Mint, Rose, Black lily, Green apple, Choco-coffee and Citronella are all in the mix, along with a Christmas fragrance of gingerbread and mulled wine. Rated hours are a third matter again, and tall does not automatically mean long — worth checking candle by candle before you settle on one.
Which one for which spot, and what the first evening decides
Two candles of the same size are not two candles of the same evening. The Chakra MINI pillars and Vanilla Pillar Candle - Handmade with Cotton Wick both stand 7 cm on a 3.5 cm width and both weigh 0.07 Kg, and still the rating differs: 8-15 hours for the MINI pillars, 9-12 hours for the vanilla one. Weight is no better a guide — Mandala Candle Love with Stand – Handmade at 0.18 Kg and Round Logo Candle KLADRUBY Stud Yellow-Salmon at 0.36 Kg are both 14 cm across and both rated 6-13 hours. Read the figures off the exact candle you have in mind.

The wider the top, the more the first evening matters. On those 14 cm rounds, and on Relief Candle Pyramid Pearls – Glittering Handcraft from Kralovske Porici at 9 cm across, keep the flame going until the melted surface has reached the outer edge; put it out sooner and later burns stay in the narrow well left behind. Wick short before every match. A flat base that cannot catch underneath, no door draught blowing across it, someone in the room the whole time it burns, and the flame where children and animals cannot get to it.
